About the 9th District

The 9th Senate District is comprised of Charles City County and portions of Henrico County, Hanover County, and the City of Richmond. There are just under 135,000 voters in the district.  It is a mix of urban, suburban, and rural communities, including downtown Richmond, the eastern Henrico suburbs, and the town of Ashland. 

The District is very diverse.  It is a majority minority district, with African-American voters making up 54% of the population of the district.  Caucasians make up 41% of the population, Hispanics 3%, and Asians 2%. It is home to the Chickahominy tribe. The District contains significant populations of college students and employees, state employees, and a wide variety of socio-economic groups.
