Elections have consequences. This past November, voters clearly gave a mandate for common sense gun violence prevention. Now, the Senate is moving forward on that promise.  
 
Last week, the Senate passed three gun violence prevention bills that have been blocked over the past several years on party-line votes. 

RICHMOND, VA - Today, the Equal Rights Amendment moved one step closer to ratification in Virginia, as a House Committee passed the Senate ERA resolution (SJ1).

Sen. Jennifer McClellan (D-Richmond), a chief patron of SJ1, presented the resolution in remarks to the House Privileges and Elections Committee. The committee passed the ERA by a 13-9 margin. 

The 2020 General Assembly Session is in full swing. After swearing in all members and electing officers, we quickly got to work adopting new rules and standing committees.

As we enter the last week of the 2019 General Assembly Session, there are still several important issues to be resolved, including amendments to the biennial budget adopted last year.  The <a href="https://budget.lis.virginia.gov/amend
Last week was crossover, the half way mark for the 2020 General Assembly session. Each chamber took final action on theirlegislation, with the exception of the budget bill.
 
This year I introduced a record 49 bills, and 41 of my bills passed in the Senate and will now be considered in the House.  SJ 1 ratifying the ERA already passed the House several weeks ago, but here are my remaining bills:

Mr. President and colleagues, ninety years ago today, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia.  This past April marked the 50th anniversary of his death from an assassin’s bullet.
